English as a Second Language students are taught and assessed in four domains: Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking. Throughout the year, there are hundreds of lessons that provide reading practice, writing practice, and even speaking practice. However, there are fewer lessons that allow students to practice and grow their listening skills.
With a well equipped listening center in my classroom, I will be able to create lessons that include more listening practice than ever before. Students will be able to listen to books on CD and tape while they follow along in their own books. Afterwards, students can participate in a number of engaging activities to practice their listening and comprehension skills. I believe that a listening center in my classroom will be a great help to my ESL students!
