Yoga is typically about self-betterment and honing of the body and mind. Yoga helps honor the mind and body which can bring balance, peace, and clarity. In my experience, junior high students tend to struggle with who they are and desperately want to fit in. The students at my school are no different than the average teenager. Many of my students are also faced with tragedies and trials that only adults should have to face. They are forced to grow up too soon. It is my hope to give them the tool of mindfulness to help them navigate through their current struggles and maintain some element of normalcy. I am currently taking a class to help me better teach mindfulness and to develop a strong yoga unit in my PE and Latino in Action classes. During my yoga unit, I plan on having two yoga instructors, myself and even my students lead our yoga classes. I will also give them resources they can use to bring what we've learned home with them. There are several yoga apps and YouTube videos to enable them to continue their yoga practice at home. I also want to create a mindfulness group with teachers at my school to help them create a better balance between work and home which will allow them less burn out in their lives. I want to thank you in advance on behalf of the students and teachers that this project could benefit. We appreciate your willingness to take the time to read and consider our project! Namaste!
