The rigor of 4th grade Content Standards can be very challenging for my students, in which many come from adverse situations so instruction in class has to be explicit, repetitive, and given in a creative and engaging way.
In class we engage in discourse; students with me, and students with each other. The use of the Accountable Talk Discussion starters will create a consistent "habit" of how we should engage with each other when we are supporting our thoughts and positions concerning different topics respectively. The various content area games, will highlight the standards I'll teach as well.
For example, the math games such as Division of Tower, and Math Bingo, will provide repetition for students that need to see the skill in different capacities. The varying literacy games will also allow me to establish several centers within our Daily 5 structure in class, and I can work with smaller groups to ensure that students are grabbing onto what is being taught. We plan to make a positive impact on our community both socially and productively.
