My students need the experience of working together in a meaningful and fun way. After hearing some of my students say how therapeutic working on Legos at home during their seclusion due to the COVID pandemic was, I thought it might be just as beneficial for all of my students.
My students need to learn how to work together in a positive way while improving their listening skills. It is my goal that by starting them in groups with small tasks using Legos, they will be able to learn problem solving and community skills. We could then move on to more complicated tasks. My students have very creative ideas. This may help them to be able to express them in a constructive way, feel the satisfaction of working as a team, and seeing a completed project.
It's important for kids at this age need to learn to work through disagreements. Using Legos is a simple way for them to try something, see if it works or not, be willing to try someone else鈥檚 ideas and to improve what鈥檚 being done if something doesn鈥檛 work the first time. They should be able to see that there can be more than one way to do something and that their way isn鈥檛 the only way to do it.
By donating to this project which includes Legos, Marble building games, other games, and plastic tubs to store everything in, you will be empowering my students to use their creative hands-on ideas while learning problem-solving strategies and working together. The flash cards will help them to gain what was lost due to the pandemic.
