I want my students to fall in love with reading from the get go. I taught Kindergarten for 7 years and my students’ favorite time was getting their cd player and bag of books and finding a spot and getting to listen to all kinds of books. ESL students don't always have family members that can read fluently to them, so this is an opportuntiy to get more exposure to English language. They get to hear fluent reading, an opportunity to usual visuals in the book to help them understand the story, and they get to hear it as many times as they want. I will use the cd players as individual centers where they can get their player and bag of books and fall in love with reading. I may also allow them to check them out to take home. My dream would be to have a classroom set so they could listen to books anytime they wanted to (time permitting).
