Flexible seating allows my Pre-K students to experiment with making choices in a safe learning environment. It is my experience that a comfortable student is an engaged and motivated learner. Currently my students are choosing to work in different areas of the room such as: sitting or standing at various tables and working with a clipboard on the carpet. They most always choose a spot that enables them to remain focused on the task.
Allowing students to choose where to sit helps them become more self-aware of what types of seating and environment help them learn best. The products that I have selected will give my students additional choices for seating. The Joy carpets will allow students to lay or sit in other areas of the classroom that are not carpeted. The foam garden mats will be used for kneeling or sitting at tables that have been lowered. These products will be beneficial in strengthening the students core muscles and are light weight and easy to store.
In addition, I have chosen laundry baskets to help with storage and a set of LED lights to use in a diy light box which will encourage further engagement in the students learning.
