As a first year teacher, my goal is to provide my 3rd graders with a safe and welcoming classroom environment to learn in. One way to provide students this welcoming environment is with a durable classroom rug. The classroom rug will be used for a multitude of activities on a daily basis. One way this rug will be used is for morning and afternoon meetings. I plan to meet with my class daily on our rug to discuss what is happening in our class and to work on character development by discussing positive moments in our class and working through issues together. This rug will also be used for literacy instruction as a place where students can listen to an interactive read-aloud book or participate in a whole group lesson or discussion. Students will also use this rug as a comfortable space for independent reading and independent work.
With this rug, my students will have a comfortable place to grow and learn in our classroom community. Many of my students come from backgrounds where their families struggle or some have gone through more in life as a 3rd grader than many people do in their adult lives. School is a safe haven for my students and I wish to provide them with a warm, welcoming environment.
The vacuum will be used to help keep the rug clean and comfortable. It will help students to learn responsibility through the implementation of classroom jobs.
