Students learn from each other.
Communication skills are vital for a person鈥檚 success in life.
An environment that promotes student collaboration is a must.
If a mathematics class is ONLY about mathematics, than the class is shorting it鈥檚 students on what they need for life. Mathematics is a tool that we use to help students learn how to think and solve problems. Mathematics can also, more specifically, be used in particular occupations. The former reason IS the reason why High School students are required to pass Algebra 1 for a high school diploma. It is the reason why the William S. Hart School district requires 30 credit of math (5 credits for each semester).
So my question is, how can a teacher effectively teach a math class if the math class鈥檚 environment doesn鈥檛 promote and support student interaction and collaboration?
Quite classes are rough. I hate quite classes. And there aren鈥檛 any employees out there that love quite employees. They just are as effective, innovative, productive, etc. If a person is closed off to others around them they are at a disadvantage.
My learning environment needs tables for the students to sit at and work at. My school said they can provide chairs.
