This grant has been submitted to purchase multiple iPads for my first grade classroom and to increase the use of technology in the classroom. iPads are powerful devices, which can enhance content delivery, student learning, and collaborative interaction.
Utilizing iPads in the face-to-face classroom allows students to instantly access and integrate information, including library resources, curriculum materials, accelerated reading, math fluency tests, intense phonics and research sites. Most importantly, using iPads in classrooms provide opportunities for peer teaching and group work. Incorporating iPads into the classroom early on can help ease students into the use of technology. This is a viable skill for future leaders and something students will need to be prepared for future careers. The classroom is where they can learn and acquire new skills. The use of iPads in the classroom provides more opportunity for individual growth and development outside of regular computer lab time.
My First grade class will utilize this grant by incorporating the use of iPads for approximately 25 students at this time. I will set up a rotation schedule so that all groups within my class will benefit from use of the iPads every week. This will influence future first grade classes through continuous use of technology in the classroom from year to year. According to Academia.edu, students demonstrated higher motivation, extended and simplified access to information, improved writing skills, greater creativity, better overall quality of work, increased feelings of academic competence and a great propensity to benefit from individualized learning through technology.
