Every student deserves ample opportunities to be seen and heard by others. Through morning meetings, I hope to set the tone for a trusting, respectful and loving classroom community starting the first day of school. These materials will help build a space in which students can comfortably share news, listen to individual voices and communicate as a group. If fully funded, we will be able to sit comfortably on an area rug every morning meeting. The books, which will be read during morning meeting, will act as windows and mirrors for my students. By reading about others' experiences and reflecting on their own experiences, my students will be able to discuss ideas such as tolerance, perseverance and equity. The document camera will enable us to read and interact with our daily morning message. Through the morning message, we can practice academic skills learned during math, literacy, social studies and science. The timer will be used to facilitate pacing during the morning meeting, so each meeting is the appropriate length, and the stress balls will be used as talking pieces.
