Not all children learn the same way. 2nd graders are learning who they are as IB students and sitting on a hard chair at a desk isn't necessarily the best way to tap into their learning potential. Our school is participating in a personalized learning cohort this year, and as a part of that initiative, I would like to provide my students with some flexible seating choices vs. the traditional hard chairs.
Wobble cushions improve energy levels and strengthen core muscles while students work. They are also calming and effectively help children stay focused and sit still while they work, especially those with attention difficulties.
The stools will be another flexible seating option giving students a choice of the best way they learn. The stools also strengthen their core muscles, allowing the mind and body to work in sync.
These aren't the only seating options that would be available in my classroom, but a few of many. Just as I adjust my instruction to meet the needs of all learners, I would like to flex my seating options to meet their different needs as well.
