First grade is such an important grade because students learn to read. I want my first graders to have a love of reading. This can be done by exposing them to books of all topics and genres. Some students prefer non-fiction, whereas other students are drowned in the world of Dr. Seuss.
Literacy experts state that each student should have at least 20 books per student in their classroom library. In my class, we are working on creating a larger library filled with engaging books that can help foster the love of reading.
These books will be used in class as read alouds, for library centers, and students will be allowed to check out the books so they may take them home to read.
