During this learning sequence, students will read several children books and write about how the authors address topics and themes we examined throughout the semester (i.e. self-esteem and identify, responding to bullying, colorism and skin tone bias, seeing beyond appearances, internalizing harmful messages, embracing who you are, etc.). Even better, because we share a building with elementary students, I hope to partner with another teacher and have my students read at least one of these books with a younger scholar and discuss those themes in a positive way. This project was inspired by Netflix's Bookmarks series.
