There are many students that go home at night and they do not have access to books or educational resources. My students are allowed to go to the library at least once a week, however, there are many times that students want a certain book and it is unavailable due to its popularity.
I want all of my students to have the same opportunities for learning.
Having a classroom library with many choices for students will help them to remain motivated to read. Keeping students interested in books of their choice will also help them to develop their reading skills. Reading will help comprehension skills, their vocabulary to grow, and becoming a fluent reader.
Most of the books for this project have been selected for student interest, but I have also selected some that correspond with the curriculum. "Sarah Plain and Tall", "The Missing Piece", and "Cinderella" are just a few fiction books that connect with what I will be teaching during the school year. I've also selected some nonfiction books that may be of interest to students that revolve around sports and famous people or events.
