I choose a variety of different seating options so my students are not limited to broken plastic chairs and rickety desks. The idea is to provide students with the opportunity to pick where they want to sit to maximize their capacity to make appropriate decisions and discipline themselves.
Students will all have an assigned "home seat" then during independent learning, they are permitted to sit either in a bean bag chair, stool, bouncy ball, bar with a stool, laptop desk or on a comfy floor pillow.
Upon being able to choose their own seat they are noticeably more engaged and motivated to complete tasks. Also caters to students who need more space, peace and quiet or those who like to work in groups.
