Students who are engaged in a lesson, learn and their emotional state plays an important part in their ability to pay attention. The Eureka Math curriculum that I use is an excellent, engaging program that is free. However, in order to implement Eureka, there are ancillary tools necessary. The Reusable Write and Wipe Packets are essential tools. Students work out math problems using a variety of strategies using the packet as a white board with built-in storage. Using dry erase markers, they model and explain their thought processes, and then, using erasers, wipe the board clean to demonstrate other strategies. Templates based on specific skills are also inserted into the packets and reused from class to class, saving thousands of copies each year. All of the materials can be easily accessible to the students by using the magnetic board supply caddy.
The Eureka Math curriculum I've used for the past two years at my former school has dramatically increased student performance in math. Because of this success, I have voluntarily transferred to a bottom 300 school starting August, 2018 to help improve that school's success in math. I need the resources to implement the Eureka math curriculum at my new school. Again, because the curriculum is free, I only need the additional tools discussed above.
Using the Reusable Write and Wipe Packets enables the program to move quickly, as the curriculum is designed. The dry erase markers are much easier for the students to use, and they don't mind correcting mistakes because erasing with a dry erase marker is done quickly with little effort, making the process more enjoyable and engaging. All of my students love this program and have made terrific gains in math.
