My classroom is bright and open; it is a place where students can come and feel welcomed and valued, no matter what they may be dealing with outside of school. We start every day with a morning meeting where we greet each other, go over class news and the day's agenda, and share with each other.
Our morning meeting is hands-down my student's favorite part of the day as they each feel valued, significant and important. Aside from morning meeting, students read and work in partners on the carpet and I pull groups there. Currently our rug is frayed and uncomfortable - it is way too small to accommodate my class, but we make due. I have many students who have a hard time controlling their bodies and attending for periods of time, so the tight quarters can be a challenge. I would love to have a space where each child can comfortably sit and participate with the class.
