My students have a wide variety of special needs due to a number of varying disabilities. Sustaining attention is particularly difficult for the majority of my students, who are very eager to learn and to demonstrate their learning. However, they require many different types of activities and materials to stay engaged and comprehend information. My students require various levels of supports, including visual answer choices, visual schedules, gestural/tactile cues, repeated exposure to materials, prompts, models, and opportunities to move.
The majority of my students are lacking the foundational skills required to make educational progress in the general education classroom.
Visuals are a necessity for all of my students, whether they be to aid in comprehension, illustrate proper placement for articulation, or to manage behavior. The Cricut, colored paper, and Cardstock will help us create a variety of visuals that will help my students make progress toward their goals on their Individualized Education Plans (e.g. hands-on learning activities, visual answer choices, visual schedules, visual directions, etc.). Additionally, the books on our wish list were chosen carefully to ensure that we can use them across grade levels for several different groups and goals. We can get so many wonderful activities out of one book!
