My students need group activity tables. The activity tables will provide opportunities for collaborative activities, positive interdependence, and communication skills. In a Title III school, it is especially important to provide a learning environment that develops opportunities for oral production and communicational skills. These tables will be placed around the classroom with a community work bin in the center that includes daily student supplies. Currently, we have individual desks that are clunky and hold distracting, wasted storage. These individual desks are meant for upper elementary students who benefit from the separated, independent storage and self-reliant practice. My first graders will benefit greatly from the group-based activity tables.
