Many of my students are active learners. They learn best when they are able to move and actively participate in hands-on activities. We explore music through movement in various ways.
We use movement to learn about steady beat, tempo, meter, dynamics, contour and form. Currently, we have one set of colored scarves that serve as a movement prop in our classroom. I've noticed that students are more engaged when they are allowed to use props as part of our movement activities. We need more individual props such as rhythm wands to show tempo, meter and style. We need a parachute and stretchy band to do full class activities. These parachute and stretchy band activities would also serve as great team building opportunities for individual classes.
