With COVID restrictions, it's harder than ever to create/provide a collaborative and interactive learning environment that extends beyond the student Chromebook screens. We need supplies for each student, so they don't have to share, which limits the in-person assignments/activities + Canvas assignment extensions that we used to provide the students.
English is so much more than reading, and the use of interactive assignments is one of the best ways to show students that!
For example: students can make life-size notes (anchor charts) and hang them around the room for their classmates to refer back to. Or, I can print class sets of excerpts, put them in the white board sleeves, and have students annotate directly on it, & just spray them clean before the next class (will help save paper + prevent cross-contamination). These are just a couple of the many ways these supplies can provide the students with opportunities that may make their learning feel like more than just a "virtual" discussion board or Google doc.
