These materials will help our students succeed by providing them with the necessities to create and run their own craft store. These materials will help jump start the store. The craft store will help teach the students responsibility, teamwork, and vocational skills. Arts and crafts activities can supplement a course book, which isn't always appropriate for all students. Creating our craft store is a way to help boost student learning. Students will engage in baking, creating cards for other people, taking photos, painting, drawing, sewing, scrapbooking, creating holiday trinkets, and arranging flowers.
Each of these crafts require the exercise of several motor skills and allows our students to become more independent as they learn to do these things on their own. Through creation of the craft store, our students can also improve their academic skills. For example, they are faced with counting out the correct number of beads, reading the instructions, or writing a few words on a project. The craft store will also help develop the students' critical thinking and decision making. Creating something can teach them how to make decisions through deciding what they will do with the finished piece, what colors will they use, what materials will be best to use. They are faced with the challenge of thinking critically in terms of deciding the best route for going about the project and decision making based on all the aspects of the project.
