Students will be able to utilize these yoga mats during their physical education class for a variety of activities. Planned activities include strength training for the upper and lower body, improving core strength, guided instruction in yoga, and meditation. All planned activities will support students with achieving their goal to develop overall mental health, physical fitness, and a healthy lifestyle for the future. Together, the combined aspects of yoga will be incorporated to improve students physical and mental health and promote a life long desire for a healthy active lifestyle. Practice in yoga works to strengthen core muscles, develop the skill to focus on mindfulness and breathing. Students will utilize yoga mats during days that involve strength training using body weight with exercises such as push ups, tricep dips, lunges, squats, and burpees. In addition to using yoga mats for strength training to prepare for state testing, students will receive guided instruction in yoga.
