My teammate and I have collaborated on flexible seating and what areas we can improve on to continue to make flexible seating successful in our first grade classrooms. We have looked at other classrooms that are doing flexible seating and have found that our classrooms have a variety of flexible seating options, but limited options to store students' supplies. A one space-saver storage tray center would provide my students with the option to share a tray with one other student in order to house their school supplies. This will also help my students practice their teamwork, organization, and collaboration skills. My students love sitting on stools behind a taller table. My teammate shared an awesome idea that this storage tray center would also create an additional option for independent work time in our classroom because a student could choose to sit behind the storage tray center with a stool and use the top to work.
I used my own money to fund many of my students' flexible seating options in our classroom so I am excited to use Donors Choose for the first time! Due to having the flexible seating in our classroom with tables and various seating options, we have lost the traditional storage with student desks. This shared storage will make a difference in my students' learning because they will have a way to organize their school supplies and still be able to have flexible seating.
