My students are a group of high energy learners that learn best when they can choose their seating and have the freedom to wiggle around. My classes are definitely more engaged in their work and less disruptive when they are given flexible seating options. An article in the educational site, Edutopia, sited "simple in-class activities can boost performance. Studies suggest that children who participate in short bouts of physical activity within the classroom have more on-task behavior, with the best improvement seen in students who are least on-task initially." Evolving the classroom to meet students’ individual needs impacts how they learn, how they interact, and the entire school experience. I believe that when the classroom environment is changed to fit the needs of the students, the students' work improves immensely, their grades improve, and they are more prepared for the real world environment.
