I am coming up on my twentieth year of teaching Family and Consumer Science. I remember what it was like during my first years of teaching. I remember teaching this course 鈥淐reative Cooking鈥. I gave the students projects where they would research the cuisine of different countries as well as different regions of the United States.
The picture you see in this project heading is from 20 years ago with students I had at my first teaching assignment. That picture can show you how my current students can use that Mobile Demonstration Lab in my classroom to carry out projects with 21st Century Expectations.
The students would present their projects at the mobile demonstration lab with a mirror so that all the students could see the cooking as it was being done. They would incorporate the culture of people as well as the geography of the region. I found a few of the pictures but I am missing my favorite picture of my students teaching about the cuisine and the culture of the Hawaiian people. They even taught us all how to dance the Hula.
