My students are from a high poverty area and they all receive free breakfast and lunch. They struggle in reading and writing are not catching on to the complex set of concepts that make reading and writing possible. They need a variety of books at their reading level to read at school and at home in order to build their confidence and apply reading strategies to become GREAT READERS AND WRITERS!
This early intervention is essential because without help, these students continue to fall behind and the achievement gap widens in later grades.
My students are eager, energetic learners. They love having books on their reading level that they can read in class as well as take home. They are always ready to learn more. Almost all of my students lack books and basic school supplies at home and most have very little experience with books outside of school.
