Slowly my school district has integrated technology into our classrooms to better prepare our students for their future they will enter upon graduation. I have a TV in my classroom that I use on a daily basis in my teaching. However, having an iPad will free up my ability to walk around my class and directly interact with my students. I have already purchased an Apple TV with my own money and would use an iPad to work individually with my students when they are researching on the internet by modeling effective and safe internet practices. Additionally, I can use the iPad to easily show current events to my students and model for them the correct way to identify news items that are inaccurate. Finally, whenever I want to focus their attention as a group to something interesting or enlightening that was discovered, I would use the Apple TV to share the iPad screen with the rest of the class.
Technology is the new norm in the lives of students today. The expectation students have is they will not only learn how to use technology in the classroom but that they will use it on an almost daily basis. The students I work with are in their last year of high school and without a technologically advanced classroom, they will not be set up for success at the college level.
