Tomorrow's jobs involve all kinds of technology. At the root of technology is coding. I have found many great web sites that teach coding but none of them have the hands-on component that a Sphero Sprk+ brings to the classroom. Students will be able to use the lessons that are already created by Sphero Edu to help guide them through the complexities of coding a robot. They will learn to move through mazes, invent games for others to play, and use mathematics to analyze their coding.
Working with hands-on coding will be the highlight of our day. One opportunity our students have in our community is creating underwater ROV's in high school. We will be building the foundation for students to be ready to help compete in coding robots to move through water. We are very fortunate to have a water science lab that is a short bus ride away to allow students to create boats that fit around the Sphero. Students will be engaging in engineering the boat that is powered by the Sphero. They then can do trials with different challenges right on the water at their outdoor lab.
When I have a classroom full of experts, having access to the Sphero will allow my students to share what they know. We will be engaging with other classrooms at our school to learn coding across grade levels. We also have literacy nights where other students and their parents visit our school. My students will be able to share what they know and teach the basics to people from our community thus lighting a fire of interest for everyone.
