Have you ever sat in meetings all day long and found yourself physically exhausted and mentally fatigued? Welcome to the reality of most school children, who are asked to sit in their chairs without moving hour after hour for six hours or more a day. Recent research shows that sitting is terrible for our health, and it goes against what our bodies are designed to do. Limiting the flow of oxygen by sitting for long periods, slows thinking and hampers learning.
The library in our school supports student learning in many ways, including offering various learning environments that students can tailor to their own needs. Our space has cozy chairs for reading or discussion. There are tables with wheels that can be set up for group work, configured for larger meetings, or cleared out of the way to create a mock courtroom. I would like to offer students more choice in their seating options to maximize their learning potential, whether with a class or working independently.
The ball chairs I am requesting funding for, would offer students an alternate seating option that would allow them to be active while still engaged in their learning.
