My Kindergarten students need to be exposed to as much literature as possible. First Little Readers focuses on high-frequency words or, as we call them in my classroom, sight words. Sight words are hard for children to learn because they are not decodable and do not have a concrete meaning.
Having these books will allow me to have my own personal library to pull for differentiated groups.
This will allow me to focus on the areas of need for each group. Having these books in my classroom will also allow me to send them home for my students to practice with their parents. Having the chance to practice reading skills at home will help my students become stronger and more confident readers by instilling a love of reading. My goal as an educator is for my students to love reading!
