The items on our wish list will all promote student success, determination, joy, and community while in the AVID program over the next four years and beyond. Our classroom is a little dated and limited in its resources, so I hope to make the space more welcoming and inspiring! Students need a space that feels like their home away from home. They need a safe, thriving learning environment that motivates and encourages them to chase their goals and aspirations. We need bookshelves, file crates, saucer chairs, and school supplies. I plan to create a more inviting classroom library including new bookcases and seating to promote greater literacy skills, enhance our walls with some college pennants and posters featuring leaders of color just like them, and provide an organizational space to store extra school supplies and materials for students who may not be receiving these at home. I also add that your support is appreciated as most teachers already spend around $600 a year on such classroom needs, so this is a huge support for both me as an educator and for my students!
