The dramatic play costumes of doctor, nurse, and waitress that I am requesting for my students will aid learning during play. I would like to create a restaurant/pizzeria along with other play centers in our classroom. We have props for the centers, but are in need of the dress up costumes.
Dramatic play is an elemental component to a 4 year old program.
The students role play a character they are familiar with in their community. They will incorporate language skills with writing and peer inaction during the play which is centered around a concept. Students will use writing skills by taking orders for the customers, use fine motor skills by building/making the pretend play with the food item, serve the items politely, and use math skills with payments and amounts. Students will use their creativity and imagination to role play the "jobs" at the center.
My 4K play centers incorporate:
1. literacy skills: reading using pictures and letters, writing using scribbles and letter formations, correct grammar and speaking to get your point across, and using key vocabulary with the center.
2. social skills: appropriate interaction with peers, such as, sharing and waiting turns, etc.
3. math: number recognition, number writing, size comparison, experimentation with the concept of money
4. fine motor skills: writing, coloring, cutting, moving objects, creating objects out of play do and paper.
5. science: learning about space and baking prior to incorporating the centers.
This year we have created learning play centers for a bakery, a construction, police center, 3 Little Pigs, a limited post office due to amounts of clothing, and a space center (astronauts). My curriculum would provide for incorporating a restaurant/pizzeria, doctor's office, veterinary office, and a beauty salon. Items are needed to help provide a fun positive experience for the students.
