These Freak the Mighty books will be used in my classroom as a "group read" to underscore and reiterate the importance of understanding and accepting others as they are. Freak the Mighty is a wonderful book about two boys who become inseparable and help each other learn to love themselves, and each other, just the way they are.
In this day and age, there cannot be enough lessons on loving who you are and also loving others the way they are. Sharing this book with my students will allow them to see another person鈥檚 life and how they "deal" with the difficulties and shortcomings that each boy has been dealt.
This project will not only affect each of my students this year, but it will provide a "trickle down" effect as I re-use these books each year with my 7th grade students next year, and so on, until the books fall apart.
