The hands-on gardening activities with the GrowLab Indoor Garden, will offer my students a variety of academic nutritional, vocational and behavioral benefits. The horticultural/vocational training will increase the students motivation in acquiring job skills and life skills, such as following directions, taking care of plants, staying on task, collecting data, working cooperatively and communication to others. Gardening will integrate into all areas of learning. Students will collect data by measuring, charting and observing plants.
Gardening can have many health benefits for people with disabilities, and can provide a source of exercise, friendship, stimulation and relaxation. With a little planning and consideration, you can create an accessible, productive and pleasant garden for people with various challenges.
