Many of the listed materials chosen for this project are Nevada Young Readers Award nominees for 2022, the Newberry Award winner and the Robert F. Sibert Informational Book Medal winner. Students love to hear these stories read aloud and follow up their curiosity by checking them out to read them independently or share them with family at home. Having a couple copies of each title in the library enables us to service the personal interests of our entire student body (ES.1.T.1). The other books listed are popular titles that the students showed an immense interest in during our last book fair. I would love to have those titles in our collection for the students. Students love to vote on their favorite NYRA books in the Spring. They get to help two books get the NYRA award, one book in the Picture Book category and one book in the Young Reader Category.
Using these materials helps our learners engage in sustained inquiry (ES.1.G.2). They grow as readers. Reading a wide range of books will help our students' general knowledge. They build their vocabulary and speaking skills as they examine and discuss. They generate new ideas and improves their imagination.
