Students will be introduced to these books throughout the year using musical concepts like rhythm and melody. I use these opportunities to connect their music to their reading skills. The Game Plan curriculum uses these children's books to enhance their music learning and promote a strong literacy theme through the grade levels.
The content of each Game Plan curriculum book takes the music standards and matches them up with literacy and interest level to provide cross-curricular learning. For example: Kindergarten has a barnyard theme to the music and the book "Barnyard Dance" and "Piggies" fit into this theme. Students will focus on saying letter sounds and seeing the spelling of the barnyard animals while learning singing voice and steady beat.
