Art was added to our school this year. I am striving to balance structure with the freedom my students need to create and grow. My students need supplemental media to teach Art History and materials for printmaking. My students enjoying learning about different cultures and different periods of Art. These materials will allow them to explore artists from all over the world and during different time periods. Each grade level will learn about different artists, theses posters show examples of their work, information about the artist. I can have these hanging in the art room and refer to them as we talk about the artists. For example, first graders will study Miro and Mondrian. These posters will make it easier for them to compare and contrast these two artists.
We will be printmaking in grades 3 -6. Printmaking requires several steps, each step is important and affects the outcome of the entire product. 6th graders will study Gyotaku – the Japanese art of making fish prints. They will use the Gyotaku Fish Print Classroom Kit to make fish prints. I will be able to use these year after year. Grades 3 -5 will create initial designs using the styrofoam as a printing plate and print a multiple print "edition" of their work.
