Picture books have the power to reach children and inspire them to live a life that they often dream about. The books I am requesting teach concepts such as; acceptance, bullying, loss, confidence, motivation, and how to dream.
The concepts that are taught in these books are often overlooked and overpowered by academic driven instruction. While academic instruction is our number one priority as teachers, many students are unable to 'turn off' they struggles they are facing. Addressing some of these issues in the class will allow students to become hopeful, experience acceptance, see themselves as unique, identify with others, and to face their challenges.
