Many of my students come to school hungry. They are not always provided meals at home. School is sometimes the only place they know they will be provided food on a consistent basis. My classroom is a quick stopping place where students come to get specialized instruction in a very short time. If a student is hungry in my classroom, they can miss the entire lesson.
Having an easy snack that can be eaten quickly can make the difference between whether a student is going to learn that day or not. Things like crackers, popcorn, and granola bars are just the thing to turn one of my student's days around.
