By having books with characters that our students can relate to we make it easier for them to find a love for reading that is so crucial for their academic success. The Little Leaders: Bold Women in Black History is not only a book that teaches about black history, it empowers young black and brown girls as well as teaching all students about black history.
Your generous donation to our project will not only allow our students to access biographies of important historical figures but also allow them to see themselves as leaders and possible agents of change. Each student having their own copy is very important because it allows our lower readers to learn reading skill while following along with other readers. Once we are done reading the entire book each student will be allowed to take their copy home. In my opinion it is very important for black and brown children to have books that they can relate to in their homes and classrooms. This would be one of the best gifts our students can receive!
