Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. Students who have difficulty sitting still can diffuse some of their energy through core-strengthening wobble chairs/balance balls which allow them to then focus on their academic success. Bumpy seats and chair bands also diffuse energy of active learners, AND assist students with ASD who have sensory needs. When conditions that impede learning are removed (excessive energy and/or the need for sensory stimulation), students' ability to focus and participate in active learning are increased. They are more engaged in the classroom and able to work towards greater work completion. I have seen how flexible seating, bumpy seats and chair bands have positively affect students' work and classroom behavior success, and I hope that the additional options will help them grow even more!
