The use of math manipulatives was an almost a daily activity in my classroom. Using the workshop model in math, students work together in stations to complete our math work places and learn math skills in a fun and engaging way. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic work places are now a digital experience and students have to navigate out of Zoom to complete the work place. They are not able to work collaboratively with another student and if they are able to work with someone, their camera is off and they can only hear each other because on an iPad the Zoom camera will only stay on if the students are in Zoom. Our work places are on a website outside of Zoom.
By donating to my project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement.
In a day and age where just about everything is hands off, my students will be able to have a more hands on experience during math as well as be able to stay in Zoom and see the person they are playing with. They will be able to focus more on the academic material at hand, and not navigating the technology tool. While students need to learn technology skills, they also need to be able to work with others and by having actual math manipulatives and games in front of them, they will have a more collaborative "face to face" experience (whether they are virtual only or come into school 2 days a week) than they have been able to have up until this point. I have also included a few things my project to help me navigate and teach with new tools from home and at school.
