Anytime you are putting books into the hands of children to read, you are fostering a love of reading to that child. When reading a book together as a class students need to have the book in front of them. Seeing the words as they are read and reading along is great reading practice for students. Students can share books as we read, but that limits what can be assigned independently and it is an added distraction to students who need to be focused on reading. The new chapter books will allow each student to hold their own copy of the book and read along with their class. This will eliminate the distraction of having to partner with 2 or 3 other students to read or having pages missing from the book, which will allow our conversations to really dig deep into the book.
