Science content vocabulary can be a challenge for students especially when English is not their first language. The use of the Science World magazines will allow the students to read about science in a style that is not like a textbook but provides them the scientific information. The beauty of using these magazines is that it provides articles and information in the three content areas taught in middle science which is Earth and Space science, Life Science and Physical science which helps to expose children to all three content areas that some have not had before. Additionally, there are online resources that can be used as the students are reading the articles that will help to enhance their understanding.
Reading opens the doors to the world. Many of my students have English as their second language and struggle with reading content-specific texts because of their reading levels. I want to open the door to the world of science that is not just in a textbook but is applicable to them in real life. Science connects us on a global scale makes the world of science real.
