Kinethetic and visual examples are incredibly effective for math. Having these large array charts will allow students to practice multiplication and division strategies with partners in a way that others can see and contribute to. The multiplication game and blocks can be used during math stations to give students practice with one of the trickiest skills they will need to learn during elementary school.
When students feel successful during math, they feel successful in all subjects. Because math is a universal language, ELL students, language-impaired students, and those reading below grade level are all able to be successful with math concepts DESPITE difficulties with language. A feeling of success in math directly translates to a student’s willingness to take risks and motivation in other subjects.
I have seen how math manipulatives can positively affect my students’ work and willingness to attempt difficult work, and I hope that these tools will offer them a fun way to facilitate math mastery this year!
