My co-teacher and I teach in an ICT (Integrated Co-Teaching) kindergarten classroom in a public school in Brooklyn, NY. Our classroom creates an inclusive environment for students with and without disabilities. We are lucky to be in New York City and work with students who come from diverse backgrounds and experiences. We are a Title 1 school comprised of about 1,000 students. 85% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch. Despite the challenges that our students face, they come to school happy and excited to learn each day. Kindergarten is a foundational year for learning and our goal for our students is to create a safe environment where students feel loved and able to express themselves, while also excelling academically. This requires a lot of differentiated instruction and materials so that we can meet our students where they are and set them up for success this year and throughout their lives.
