Our project was fully funded last year and our students can't stop talking about it! We are continuing to see a significant increase in student attendance and engagement in the students who were able to attend this program last year. We want to keep the momentum going and reach even more students this year! Colorado offers many options/activities for outdoor experiences and our students do not get to engage in these activities regularly, if at all. Our goal is to increase student engagement in an academic setting by providing a customized, interactive and experiential opportunity that is specifically tailored to our natural landscape in Colorado. A trip to Cal-Wood Education Center will also allow students to be active, connect with peers and staff, and further their knowledge of the world around them.
On this overnight trip, students will increase their capacity to work as a team and will learn that they can trust peers and adults.
Our students often struggle with trusting others as they have had many negative experiences with adults and their peers. They will gain a skill set that will aid them in learning to elicit help from others when they need it.
Many of our students have never had the chance to truly experience the Colorado wilderness. We have seen the positive results of interactive, outdoor experiences. These experiences are vital in helping our students develop meaningful connections with peers and staff.
