My project will supply students with opportunities and supplies needed in our school to advance their science and math. It will show them that science and math is everywhere around them. My students need a laptop computer to assist them with this "Science Environmental" project. I want to give them an opportunity to learn about science through hands-on experiences. I want my students to enjoyable learning experiences and love learning with math and science. I will use sustainable energy themed units with my students. My students would benefit greatly from this project.
Our school is located in a low income urban community. Our school is 100% free lunch. Many students come from a single parent income.
Electricity is an integral part of our daily lives, but many energy sources are having a negative effect on our environment. I plan to read with my students about innovations in alternative energy sources. They will work in small groups to design and build a system to generate energy and share with classmates. Students will create a plan for alternative energy to be used at home with their family and collect data. The students will learn the importance of renewable energy resources and share what they did at home to conserve energy. In order to carry out this unit my students need a computer to research various energy sources and how they might help to conserve energy.
