My project is about the power of kindness. I will be focusing on different aspects of bullying and embracing differences. Everyone is different in some way, however we are all ordinary inside. We should be focused more on our education and well-being, rather than being judged by our appearance and the materials we possess. Each act of kindness, whether big or small, could impact someone鈥檚 life tremendously.
This project and book choice will help inspire my students to value kindness in hopes of making positive impressions in others鈥 lives.
My book choice for this project is "Wonder鈥 by R.J. Palacio. This modern book focuses on a young boy, August Pullman, who has a rare facial deformity. Auggie鈥檚 mother has been homeschooling him up until the 5th grade. Now, Auggie has been enrolled into a private school. Throughout the story, Auggie faces many challenges and is bullied for his appearance. Auggie makes friends who value him for who he is and he continues to push forward despite wanting to give up. At the close of the story, Auggie receives a prestigious medal for his outstanding character.
